Cyberbullying is a reality for far too many people. It can occur among school students but there are times when it may also happen among adults as well. It’s unfortunate, but it can certainly have an impact on the person that is involved.

Sometimes, we get accustomed to laughing at pictures we see, especially of people who are shopping at Walmart. It does seem as if some rather strange occurrences take place, but there are also times when a little bit of understanding is necessary.

This took place when Jennifer Knapp Wilkinson was shopping at a Walmart and she was using her scooter. Unfortunately, she fell from the scooter and as she struggled to get back in, someone took her picture from behind.

The picture was shared online and within a short amount of time, thousands of people came to look at it. Many were saying the meanest things about her, calling her fat and lazy.

This was a horrible thing, but Jennifer, who is a full-time mother, knows how to stand up for herself. She has plenty of health issues, including a spinal condition that makes it very difficult for her to walk.

Rather than being ‘lazy’ as so many people said, she has pain and weakness in her legs. If she stands for any length of time, she has an increasing risk of falling down.

On that particular day, she was having a difficult time. She was struggling both physically and mentally but she still went out to get food for her family. When she was leaning forward to pick up some soda for her husband, she fell.

She went on to tell people that you may not be able to see her disabilities but they are there, and they are real. She put them in their place, saying that the next time they see photos making fun of people, just remember that you don’t see them and the struggles that they face every day. She reminds us all that it’s never harmless fun to laugh at somebody.

Unfortunately, these things happen all too often online but examples, such as these, can really help us to have the right perspective.
