When Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee Furness announced their separation on Friday (September 15) after 27 years of marriage, they saved us the details and said it was the only statement they would make regarding the split – adding that they ‘greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy.’
Instead of respecting their privacy, the paparazzi – in typical pap fashion – decided to press Jackman in hopes of getting some details regarding the split. “What kind of individual growth are you pursuing?” the photographer asked Hugh while walking through the streets of New York City – all by his lonesome.
Hugh could’ve decided to get nasty with the reporter – like some celebrities tend to do – but he chose to stay classy (as he always does). “Doesn’t feel quite right talking about it on the street, but I appreciate your thoughts, man. Thank you,” the 54-year-old actor said to the reporter. “It’s a difficult time,” he added.

Knowing he wasn’t going to get anything out of Hugh Jackman at that moment, the photog changed topics and asked the actor when fans could expect the new Deadpool movie to resume filming – Jackman plays Wolverine in the movie, but filming was suspended in July due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.
While he couldn’t say for sure when filming would resume, he did say it was possible that they resume soon – so long as the strike comes to an end. Of course, there appears to be no end in sight as the strike enters its third month. That means we might not have a Deadpool 3 for a while, but it’ll come eventually!
As for Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee Furness, their marriage has come to an end and it appears they won’t be reconciling in the future. “We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage,” they wrote in a joint statement just two days ago (on Friday).
“Our journey now is shifting, and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth,” the former couple added. “We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.”
Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee Furness Share Two Children Together
Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee Furness’ love story began in 1995, when they met on the set of Correlli – Deborra-lee was already an established actress, while Hugh was just getting started with his career. Hugh got picked up in a car that Deborra-lee was in, which is when the couple first laid eyes on one another.
It didn’t take long for their love to sprout into a marriage. The two tied the knot on April 11, 1996 at St. John’s in Toorak, Victoria, a suburb of Melbourne. Jackman had the couple’s wedding bands customized and inscribed to read ‘Om paramar mainamar’ – which means ‘we dedicate our union to a greater source.’
Four years later, Jackman and Furness adopted their first child – a son named Oscar Maximilian Jackman, who was born in May 2000. They weren’t done adding to their brood. Five years later, they adopted their second child – a daughter named Ava Eliot Jackman, who was born in July 2005.
