Judi Dench offers a challenging health update that is affecting her profession and discusses her views about retiring.

The English actress, 88, opened out about her health issues in an interview with The Mirror’s Sunday magazine Notebook and clarified whether or not they will force her to stop acting.

Thankfully, Dame Judi Dench has said she intends to continue working “as much as I can,” despite the fact that her vision is deteriorating.

She said, “I mean I can’t see on a set any longer. “And I’m too dim to read. So I don’t see much. However, you already know how to handle it. Get on.

If I have a segment that is even slightly long, it’s challenging for me. I still haven’t figured out how. because so many of my friends are willing to tutor me in the script. However, my memory is photographic.

The Oscar-winning actress revealed in 2012 that she had macular degeneration, which causes one eye to become “dry,” resulting in fuzzy center vision, and the other to become “wet,” resulting in blind areas.

According to Dame Judi, she won’t be retiring anytime soon.
It’s the worst jolt to the system, continued Dench. Ghastly. Being so dependant on others is awful.

The movie veteran reiterated her commitment to working well into her golden years in 2014, just before turning 80, at a BBC Esio Trot screening. She was uninterested in hearing otherwise.

In 2012, the actress disclosed that she had macular degeneration.
I don’t want to be told I’m too old to do something,” she said, adding, “I want to see for myself whether I can’t do it rather than be told you might have a fall or you can’t learn your lines. Please let me try. Let’s all try it out.

Age is a number, she continued. It’s something you were forced to do. When people ask me if I’m going to retire, it totally irritates me. Isn’t it time you sat back and relaxed? Or, tell me your age.

Dench has been a professional actor for more than 60 years (seen here in 1957).
“For some reason, I only ever felt genuinely upset when I was 40. When I turned 40, I experienced a major emotional breakdown, but I recovered quickly. You are only as old as you feel is an old proverb. It has something to do with the inside and has nothing to do with age. It is the motor.
